Kinusaiga?

Kinusaiga is a Japanese art originated by the artist Setsu Maeno. It involves cutting a design into a backing material, laying fabric over the top and tucking it into the cuts you have made to form your picture.

It's a really fun art form to explore and can be used to create very detailed and realistic pictures, extremely abstract scenes, or anything in between.

Having a good supply of scrap fabric will provide you with a lot of options in how you put your pieces together and, just like other artforms, there's a bit of trial and error to see what works well and the style of art you enjoy creating with this form.

Workshops

I'm very keen to offer workshops in kinusaiga but don't have my own venue to do this from. If you are interested in a workshop, or know of a venue looking for more workshops to run out of their space, please get in touch. I am based in Swindon but could easily travel to venues in Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire.
